Has anyone heard anything about this game? Haven't heard anything about Gary Gygax in sometime. But have liked his stuff in the past.

Lejendary Adventures Online (http://di.gamepoint.net/lejendary/en/index.php?page=news)

Over in a thread (http://www.mythicarealms.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=1332&st=0&#entry15353) at Realms, Mythoxxus posted a link to a post on rewarding roleplaying (http://di.gamepoint.net/lejendary/forum/showthread.php?threadid=710) on their forums. So I'm checking it out.

I'd have to disagree with what Mythoxxous said. In Earth and Beyond they had almost exactly what he's talking about. When you made your account you got this point you could give out to other players if they helped you. You only got one, not one a month like he's talking about, and it was still abused. When the point was given, the person who recieved it got $100k and a skill point. Even though you only got one, it was almost always abused. It always went to the person with the highest bid. At first, it was about 200k. Then the month I quit, the prices were up to 100mil. It ruined the gameplay to an extent, and unless some unique way of regulating the point system is used, I would imagine that it could be abused in Lejends also.

Did you read the whole thread, all ten pages, interesting debate in there. And Gary Gygax is posting his opinions on the how he does it in the PnP version of Lejendary Adventures. He's asking the devs for how they plan to do it in the online version. Very interesting stuff.

I only read the first 3, but yes, they certainly have some interesting ideas.

I've been peeking into this from time to time...learned about it six months or so ago. Could be interesting, but in order to distance itself from the rest of the swords-and-sorcery MMOGs on the way in the next couple years, it needs something special. Mythica has the Private Realms system and the idea of having followers to do the drudge-work (or so we think so far), plus the hook of being set in a mythology that is appealing to lots of people. Gary Gygax's name does have some serious clout, but will Lejendary Adventure live up to the "lejend" of D&D? That remains to be seen.

Did you see their take on griefing? It's part of your reputation and you'll become a bandit, part of the game. Player misbehavior is a problem in any MMP game online. With the LA game, though, this "lemon" is turned into "lemonade," a chance for the involved players to apply the Laws they have set for their Domain. Collaterally, this also gives motive and reason for misbehaving players to work within the game system, become "outlaws," and thus serve the function of rebels, criminals, and rogues as are found in the best of fantasy milieux! The computer can not play such roles, but the real-life players are quite capable of doing this. So we are one step nearer to the live Game Master with this innovative addition.Interesting.

Wow, in checking out the forums, I found this post by Gary Gygax on a German newspaper story featuring him. It has to be one of the funniest reads I've had in a long time.

I saw a tech demo at ECTS and the terrain is amazing.

I've added it to my list of watched games. I've been a huge fan of Gary Gygax back since 1978 when I purchased D&D, followed closely by AD&D, which trickled out over my 7th grade days.

I refuse to pay it any attention due to the simple fact that they spelled Legendary incorrectly.

Yes, I know it's a silly reason to boycott a game, and yes, I know it was spelled that way on purpose... and that reinforces my point even more! If that game becomes popular, I'm going to see that misspelling until the day I die.

"Congradulations" Gygax. Way 2 go, dood. (N)

That outlaw quote is pretty interesting. I think its going to be pretty tough to implement. How do you really control who becomes an outlaw? I mean its kinda like the "warnings" on AIM, you can give them to whom ever you want, they dont mean that they are bad people, you may just be messing around. So that could end up in the game, some guy saying you stole from him and he gets 5 of his friends to give you a bad rating...next thing you know you are an outlaw and being hunted by fellow players.

Well that is how I read it, I could be wrong. Plus its really early in development still, so they could think of some nifty way of implementing it. If they do get it to work out, it is a really cool idea.

I've been chatting some with Gary Gygax in his forums and managed to learn that he was invited to go to GenCon (shoot he probably started GenCon and probably gets invited to all the RPG conventions) but had to turn it down as he's busy getting content out.

I asked him what it was like going to a convention with fanboys like myself bugging him.First, let it be known that I am a fanboy in my own right, having hung around the Avalon Hill booth at the Hobby Industry of America Trade Show for many a year back in the 1960s, and also done much the same thing thereafter at cons in regards to authors I admire that were there

Gencon has actually been going since before D&D. It was originally a wargaming con.

Gary was big into wargaming, thats how he started D&D, so he was probably there if he didn't start it. :)

I did not read the article, but did they mention anything about an expected due date?

Griefing as part of the game, hmmmm..??

I can see this as both a good and bad thing. How far can the griefing go? Can somebody steel you hard earned weapon you just fought for? I'd have to know more about this idea for me to be on board with it.
