I saw this on Gamespy Daily (http://www.gamespydaily.com).Sony Online Entertainment announced that, the land of Norrath is about to get a little more dangerous. As of December 19th, a new EverQuest server called "Discord" will launch, giving players a chance to go at it in a limited time competition involving unabashed Player VS Player action. This new server will only be live for a few short weeks, as SOE challenges players to slug it out and learn who is the most powerful wizard or warrior in Norrath. The battle begins December 19th and ends January 12th, 2004 with the highest-scoring survivors proclaimed the winners. Prizes include having a class-appropriate item named after each winning character in the Gates of Discord expansion pack (which winners will get when the expansion launches), a one-time transfer of their character and all gear from the Discord server to another server of their choosing and a unique title that distinguishes them from their fellow Norrathians. Learn more at www.everquest.com.
Interesting stuff, so they're doing a PvP competition and giving away out of game stuff for it. Plus naming an item after you. Sounds real cool. Although it seems like a big guild could band together and probably win it for one of their members, although I haven't played EQ in years so I may be wrong on that.

*grates teeth*

again its something for the hardcore player. a casual gamer who pays just as much has no chance of winning this!

imo casual gamers are paying more for what they actually get in a game like EQ where time invested is everything, it really really irks me.

Would you rather they offered a pay for the amount of time you play plan?

I started a separate thread (http://www.mythicahq.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1549) to talk about that topic.
