A new MMORPG is coming around the block and it's certain to make waves in more ways than one!

Here is something to brush you up on it!

http://www.flyinglab.com/pirates/about.php

It all takes place in the New World where the nations vied for supremacy. Serve any crown as all of them have their own unique features.

It presents people with a variety of options from being a naval commander under various nations to being a trader or pirate amongst other professions. You're not forced to remain in any certain profession. You could be a trader with a massive fleet that collects a percentage of booty from pirates you take under your wing, but yet, you wouldn't suffer the reputation deduction.

It will also provide a skill system, rather then the level system, which has always been a stigma of MMORPGs. A skill system allows for much more freedom in development so that one won't be labored down by arbitrary restrictions. For an example, merely look at Ultima Online and you'll realize how golden it truly is!

The combat will be much faster than the standard fare in MMORPGs. You'll have to move swiftly to dodge the barrages of cannonballs being shot at you all the while delivering hell back to them! Each portion of the ship can be damaged, such as the sails, mast, every spar, etc, and with nine different types of ammunition along with two dozen cannon type, expect to see hell! Depending on what's hit, a variety of things could occur from being slowed down because of damaged sails or you could lose a portion of your crew in a grape-shot! You can allow for your captains to handle firing whilst you focus on tactics or you could manually control them.

Want to form a fleet with some buddies, then go on ahead! The game will provide a plethora of options for groups and group leaders. For instance, the group leader can issue out individual orders such as to defend a certain ship or to attack a certain target. It's all integrated in the beautiful user-interface.

The missions in the game are astounding as well! From the assassination of a naval commander to delivering a person to another town, you'll never be short of something grand to do.

It's being financed, made, and published by only one company! True indie gaming at its best. There's no retail box! It will have to be downloaded.

There will be cities to dock in and provide supplies for your ship. This is where the trading comes into play. Each city will have various goods it can produce. For instance, Port Royale may produce grain efficently, but be unable to make rum, however, Port Au-Prince produces rum efficiently, but is unable to make grain. So this is where the trading aspect comes in. You go to Port Royale and buy grain low, then go to Port Au-Prince and sell high. Then you buy the rum low and then take it to Port Royale and sell high. It's a very dynamic system that will allow for a lot versatility.

There's also a reputation system from individual towns to entire nations! If you were to be a pirate and you plundered a few ships of a specific nation, they would not think highly of you and after a certain point, you would be able to dock in their ports. Thus you would be unable to supply yourself and you would slowly basically become neutered. :-P With this game being open PvP, it is a great system for preventing gankfests and such.

Though I do have some bad news for those that are on dial-up. You will not be able to play this game. They only support broadbrand, which I feel is a great move and will allow for more optimization so I can enjoy the game more. :p

I'm tired of ranting now! Just take my word for it...this game will be great. What'd you think of my little preview?! I'm usually not very good at these things. Have a good day!

nice job!

The most interesting about this one is simply that it is something different. Nice to see people pushing boundaries.

Aye, Mythica and it could very well pave the way for future MMORPGs. I'm becoming too hyped with these games. :(

I've been watching this one for awhile now...looks very interesting, simply because it's a totally new spin on things. Instead of being the classical hero-type adventuring in a world filled with fantastical beasts, you are in control of a SHIP! Great concept. I just hope they can pull it off properly. So far, it looks really cool.
