Gamespy has another developer diary (http://www.gamespy.com/devdiary/december03/eqii3/) for EQ2.The details become much more vivid when our lighting engine is added to the mix. All of the extra polygonal edges catch light and cast shadows on themselves or nearby walls. We have many lighting tools at our disposal such as flickering lights, lights that turn on and off at certain times, negative lights, spot lights, and fog lights that add fog to a certain area instead of light. Lighting drastically changes the mood and ambience of a room or dungeon and we have used it to great effect.
I don't think the info in it's near as good as Michael Cahills post here (http://www.mythicahq.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=16873#post16873). Although I do like that each dungeon will be owned by a race and that will decide its look and feel.
Another thing I've noticed, the screenshots for EQ2 all seem bland. Maybe I'm missing something I keep hearing people say the screenshots for EQ2 blow away everything else. But I don't see it. I do like the faces on the characters but the rest is bland. The different armors, hair, etc. don't seem to stand out, especially not compared to what we've seen from Mythica. For example, check out this latest released screenshot (http://eq2.ogaming.com/content/images/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album01&id=thepast). IMO, it doesn't compare to the screenshots from Gamespot (http://www.mythicahq.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1407) or Gamespy (http://www.mythicahq.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1469).
