Do MMORPGs use illusion against the players much?
Imagine a PR module where you cruise into a village and everything looks perfectly normal. The inhabitants appear strangely nervous, but you can't put your finger on it. Then you step into the center of town and in a flash EVRYTHING changes around you and you find yourself totally surrounded by Corrupted and have to fight your way clear.

I havent really seen illusions used in mmogs so far. I really like the idea you presented, and since Mythica's PRs will have triggers to trip events, so this could quite possibly be worked in and be something really fun to see.

I also like the idea of players being able to use illusions , i.e. the stormwright pulling out three false images of himself as to confuse the enemy and have him miss the actual target. I loved illusions in trpgs, but havent seen them in mmorpgs really yet.

Closest thing was probably turning yourself into furniture in the middle of nowhere in EQ, but other than that...

It would certainly open up dungeons a bit... stumble across an illusionary cave wall leading to a xenophobic settlement of dwarves... talk your way out, help them, or fight your way through. Could be a good edition to private realms.

Wouldn't mind seeing something like a displacer beast hanging around either, heh.

Woo, I just noticed I'm been promoted to proven slave.

I too love this idea. Maybe the big yellow areas on the maps are illusionary fields hiding armies, when you trigger them, look out your surrounded. :)

Illusions of yourself or group would be great trickster stuff too.

Illusions would be a great skill for the Tricksters, walk into town, and look there is a fellow Berserker, start talking to them ect, but the berserker is a Trickster in discise, not sure what the use of this skill would be yet.

But would make you think about who you were really talking , especially when you saw them attack :D

I see you took this idea (http://www.mythicahq.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=19514#post19514) and ran with it. :)

I think it is a great idea, some ground rules would need to be established in order cut down on complaints that people might have. I mean being tricked is one thing, but being tricked and killed is another. :)

Well, sure...it would be a means to surprise and challenge...not kill.

I gave a quick and overtly simple example.

Here's another idea...suppose hunters can obtain a skill that sees through illusions. The entire party can be standing in the same spot, but only the hunter can see throught the veil. UNLESS OF COURSE they are looking through the hunter's eyes!

See, these are the kinds of things that a computer game allows that a tabletop game simply can't do efficiently.

Oh I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought it was a bad idea. In fact if done correctly I think it could be amazing. I was just thinking that there could be some things about it that might play into griefers hands.
