Marc Scattergood had this (http://www.nwdragon.com/blogger.html) to say about Wednesday at the GDC.Session 2: Storytelling in Games, Roundtable, Bob Bates
This was the first session I got to sit in for the whole thing and again, proved to me why Bob Bates has been so prolific in games. He is a very clear, intelligent guy with great ideas on how to approach game design and storytelling. Like any roundtable, conversations got sidetracked on occasion, but overall stayed very much on focus. Issues such as arguing whether developers could or should ever algorithmically develop story lines (Ack!), whether it’s really possible or even necessary to apply stories to “emergent” game types (The Sims, Civilization, etc), and the value of linearity vs. non-linearity in gameplay and story telling. Overall, a very useful session, especially from a game design standpoint.Cool stuff make sure you check (http://www.nwdragon.com/blogger.html) it out.
