Massively (http:/www.massively.com) continues it's E3 coverage with an interview with Matt "M" Wilson, this time on PvP (http://www.massively.com/2008/07/20/e308-pvp-in-the-agency/)Massively: Is The Agency going to be open to a PvP type of environment?

In the example we see in the video, the only thing you can do is actually blow up the bombs and kill yourself, that kind of thing. In PvP we'll have to flag friendly fire on or off -- if you want to shoot your team, you can. If you don't, you won't. In PvE, we're really focused on friendly fire being off most of the time because of players joining ad-hoc groups. We don't want to make the game a griefer's paradise.

Why would anyone turn friendly fire on? I dont understand. Unless the reward is better and the choice is at the offset of the mission, then its pointless.

If someone puts friendly fire on, then they are just asking to become hunted by their own team...people are often childish and stupid, game developers need to take that into consideration...and unless you can ban someone from shooting you then it becomes a moot point.

I believe he was saying that when you create the PvP session you get to choose whether you want it or not. But it's for the whole game/session.

The challenge of increased difficulty. It requires better positioning, proper use of LOS, reduces the effectiveness of poorly executed covering fire, and - overall - requires better coordination.

As you rightly point out, Esion, it also allows griefing.

Ah, yes I understand the point of friendly fire, but I would think that you have to increase the reward for me to risk being shot by my teammate. Completing a mission with friendly fire is going to be much more difficult, especially in chaotic shootout situations. So there is a risk-reward situation there.

This is for PvP not PvE. Just a choice of how you want to play when setting up the matches.

The only thing I'm a little bit worried about is the whole "a head shot is a head shot" motto. But I'll probably be ducking for cover and stuff if I'm gonna pvp like I do when I see snipers in TF2. LoL
