Elves finally?
 

Does the picture that Jade posted on Mythica France in this thread show an elf on the screen? If not what other race might it be?

I think the picture shows an elf. The Norse tradition break down elves into 'light' elves (ljósálfar) and 'dark' elves (dokkálfar). I think the one shown on the left is a 'dark' male elf.

yeah if that is an elf, he looks kinda mean, so I would say its a darkelf, or it could even be a mob of some sort, but who knows.

If I see him in game, I'll kill him. :mad:

Is that a Trinitron monitor they are useing? I think it is an elf, but I'm just speculating.

Can anyone see if that is LightWave or Maya...I cant quite see the icons but I have both at home, might have to check it out...mimick that and post it on here...LOL

And I thought about it at school...looks very evil, if he is my follower I might have to do bad things...

Looks awesome. Not amazingly oversized in the ear department, and with slim pointed face, very much how i imagine an Elf to be... though i imagine them with weaker chins... and with me chasing 'em with an axe.

It is Maya they are using. They use Maya for everything, modeling, animation, etc. And that may be an elf... I have my doubts, remember humans, alfar, and dwarves are not the only species in the game, just the only playable ones...
Correct me if I'm wrong though, but wern't the "dark elves" traditionally considered to be the same thing as the dwarves?

Esion had suggested that this pic might be one of the Huldrefolk? What do you think?

Pollux, in Norse mythology, Dark Elves and Dwarfs are probably the same thing. Since we havn't heard anything about dark elves, I'd assume that all the elves we see are just light elves.

I think there is a very good possibility that you might be right. Like I said I strongly doubt that it is an Elf... I think a Huldre is a very good assumption.

Well thanks Fenris, it was just a thought based on the description and the fact that the pic looks too mean to be a friendly NPC. I guess we will have to wait and see if someone (a dev :p) will chime in about what that pic really is...

To be honest I was a little taken aback by the picture. Elves are usually less.. evil looking? Perhaps it is a hudrefolk.
The pointy ears certainly fit with an elves usual appearance, but the construction/rendering could be being used for anything from character creation to monsters.

Dark Elves = Svartalf -- home:Svartalfheim
Light Elves = Ljosalf -- home:Alfheim
Dwarves = Dvergar -- home:Nidavellir

Depending on the source, svartalfar and dvergar are the same or not.

The Svartalfar are often identified with the dvergar (dwarfs) and are hard to distinguish from the Döckálfar (the earth-dwelling ones).

Who knows how the Mythica team will interpret it.

I for one wouldn't mind some more feral, less dainty elves (in response to the screen shot).

Too mean to be an elf
Too slim to be a dwarf

That means it's most likely a dark elf or Hudre... Either way... Looks coool.

We've only heard about 'elves' so far, with no distinction between dark or light. From this, you can assume that:
We can play dark and light elves - unlikely, as I think the elf home on the Mythica site is listed as Alfheim (Light Elve's land).
or We play light elves, and can perhaps fight dark elves.

Personally I think it is more likely that since we have only heard about the Alfar... that is all there are... my guess is that they will go with the concept that dark elves are dwarves, thereby clearing any confusion and not making extra work for themselves.

Also, if you notice, the vast majority of times that the devs mention the elves, they refer to them as Alfar, not elves, now correct me if I am wrong, but Alfar refers to what are known as the LIGHT elves. Therefore I very seriously doubt that we will be able to gain worshippers from the dark elves (which I think will be dwarves anyway)
